On March 2, Entertainment Weekly revealed the cover to the fourth and final book in Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember In The Ashes Series, A Sky Beyond The Storm.
Alongside the cover reveal, there was also a Q&A with Tahir to see what’s to come in the finale and reflect on ending the series, which was first published in 2015.
“This series, this enormous tapestry that has consumed my brain for thirteen years is finally complete and I cannot process it. How did it go by so fast? It’s like watching a kid grow up. Along with the joy, I also feel sadness. Because while I might revisit the world of Ember again, I will never revisit these characters in quite the same way. And some of them we will be saying goodbye to forever. I’ve been very emotional. I used to say that I’m not really a crier. I can’t say that anymore….”

Within the Q&A, Tahir reflected on how she has been the inspiration for author YA authors alongside her impact and growth as an author. She stated that “I understand deeply what it means to be inspired by someone else’s writing. For me, there’s no higher compliment…I felt invisible in fantasy and in young-adult fiction…I wrote EMBER because I wanted brown kids as heroes and romantic leads and side characters and villains and everything in between. I wanted us front and center. So if the books have resonated for other writers, then I am so thankful for it….”
That same day, Penguin Teen shared the pre-order campaign which can be found on the official Ember4 website. The swag includes a deluxe Ember keepsake box and Phase 2 gift, currently kept under wraps until the end of May.
The cover artist for A Sky Beyond The Storm is Shane Rebenschied.
Picking up just a few months after A Reaper at the Gates left off…
The long-imprisoned jinn are on the attack, wreaking bloody havoc in villages and cities alike. But for the Nightbringer, vengeance on his human foes is just the beginning.
At his side, Commandant Keris Veturia declares herself Empress, and calls for the heads of any and all who defy her rule. At the top of the list? The Blood Shrike and her remaining family.
Laia of Serra, now allied with the Blood Shrike, struggles to recover from the loss of the two people most important to her. Determined to stop the approaching apocalypse, she throws herself into the destruction of the Nightbringer. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory–or to an unimaginable doom.
And deep in the Waiting Place, the Soul Catcher seeks only to forget the life–and love–he left behind. Yet doing so means ignoring the trail of murder left by the Nightbringer and his jinn. To uphold his oath and protect the human world from the supernatural, the Soul Catcher must look beyond the borders of his own land. He must take on a mission that could save–or destroy–all that he knows.
