Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Is Getting A Manga Adaptation!

On March 31, it was announced through Rainbow Rowell’s Twitter via a cover reveal that her 2013 college-set contemporary Fangirl, would be adapted into a manga with Viz Media!

According to the book’s page on the Viz Media website, Rowell’s novel will be adapted by Sam Maggs with art and illustrations by Gabi Nam.

Fangirl Volume 1 is just one of four according to Rowell on Twitter. She also stated that “…Viz is really sticking to the original vibe of the books. I’m working closely with Sam on the script — I’ve written lots of new dialogue and even some NEW SIMON AND BAZ STUFF.”

Maggs has written numerous books about girls and women both relating to fandom or geek culture and history.

Adam Grano and Nam were in charge of the cover design.

Cath doesn’t need friends IRL. She has her twin sister, Wren, and she’s a popular fanfic writer in the Simon Snow community with thousands of fans online.

But now that she’s in college, Cath is completely outside of her comfort zone. There are suddenly all these new people in her life.

She’s got a surly roommate with a charming boyfriend, a writing professor who thinks fanfiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome new writing partner … And she’s barely heard from Wren all semester!

Fangirl Vol. 1 by Sam Maggs is set to be released October 13, 2020!
