On September 28, it was announced through Tor Books that The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake, an independently published dark academic fantasy that took the book community by storm, is being released with a new hardcover edition in addition to the release of two more books in the planned trilogy.

Originally self-published in 2020, The Atlas Six follows six uniquely talented magicians from around the world who are invited to compete in an academic fellowship as part of the The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of knowledge that has been lost to the greatest civilizations of ancient times. However, elimination holds deadly consequences.

According to Tor’s article, Blake’s “newly revised” edition of her novel will include “new illustration material” which will be releasing in 2022. The first novel now has an ebook version available for purchase through Macmillan.

The novel has garnered over 9.5 million views on Booktok and was recently placed into Barnes & Noble stores earlier this summer. Cover artist for the new edition of The Atlas Six is Jamie Stafford-Hill.

According to the FAQ page, the hardcover edition will contain revisions from the author, be edited and include new interior art. A pre-order campaign is to be announced soon as well.

The highly-anticipated sequel titled The Atlas Paradox is slated for October 2022. Olivie Blake is the pen name for Alexene Farol Follmuth. The official website for the novel can be found here.

The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity, are the foremost secret society of magical academicians in the world. Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation.

Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person’s inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality—an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications.

When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society’s archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will.

Most of them.

Flirting With Fate by J.C. Cervantes Cover Reveal

On August 18, Penguin Teen revealed the cover to a forthcoming Romance from J.C. Cervantes titled Flirting With Fate, slated for an April 2022 release!

In this Los Angeles-set contemporary fantasy romance, three tight-knit sisters and a fifth-century saint are tasked with helping their grandmother to retrieve a blessing after it landed with a boy who was present during an accident. If the mistake isn’t corrected, their grandmother will linger as a ghost forever.

Cervantes has pitched her novel as a “Mexican fairytale magical romcom.” Alongside the cover was also an excerpt. Cover artist is Karina Perez. This novel also serves as Cervantes’s Young Adult debut.

Cervantes is the NYT Bestselling author of The Storm Runner trilogy, which is published under Rick Riordan’s middle grade imprint Rick Riordan Presents.

Ava Granados will never forgive herself for being late to her beloved Nana’s deathbed. For generations, blessings have been passed to the women in her family upon death, but due to a freaky flash flood that left Ava in a fender bender with a mysterious boy, she arrived seconds too late to for Nana’s blessing—instead, all she gets is the wash of regret on her sisters’ faces.

Until Nana pops up with a challenge from beyond the grave. As it turns out, Nana did give Ava a blessing, but it missed, landing with the boy from the night of the storm. If Ava can’t straighten out the mistake, Nana will linger as a ghost forever, which she’s not exactly excited about. To help her on her quest, Ava will have her two older sisters and Nana’s rather bumbling spiritual guide, Medardus, who is, of all things, the patron saint of teeth.

For solitary Ava, being asked to befriend some random boy is the last thing she wants to do. She’s gotten along just fine being wary and protecting her heart; keeping people at a distance is a great way to ensure no one ever hurts you. But as Ava and the gang embark on their mission to retrieve Nana’s blessing, she starts to wonder if what she might gain by getting close to thunderstorm boy is worth the risk.

Lin’s forthcoming novel follows Ning, a commoner who unknowingly brews a poison tea that killed her mother and now threatens to take her sister, Shu. To have a chance at saving her, she enters the kingdom’s magical tea-brewing competition. But the other competitors, court politics and secrets make it far more impossible, even dangerous than she imagined.

According to the blog post, Lin stated that the cover artist, Sija Hong, captured “so many elements” such as, “the water lilies and lotus flowers, the carps and snakes, and then my main character Ning is in the center. Holding a teacup, wielding her magic. Scared, but defiant.”

Lin has stated that her novel will be filled to them brim with her love of “Taiwanese tea / HK Wuxia movies / Chinese Legends / Song Dynasty ~vibes~”

When Ning hears of a competition to find the kingdom’s greatest shennong-shi—masters of the ancient and magical art of tea-making—she travels to the imperial city to compete. The winner will receive a favor from the princess, which may be Ning’s only chance to save her sister’s life.

But between the backstabbing competitors, bloody court politics, and a mysterious (and handsome) boy with a shocking secret, Ning might actually be the one in more danger.
